A/B Testing is the discipline of testing interactions or engagements between two alternatives of a piece of digital content, usually a web page, email or piece of digital advertising. The two versions are usually A (the original) and version (B), a new design. These tests are useful to test a new piece of body copy or two equally strong pieces of creative. A/B/N testing is the discipline of testing more than two whole designs.

A/B and A/B/N testing can often be the precursor to a full multivariate test, where the design is broken down into its constituent design elements, and then variations of these elements are then tested.
