Technical FAQ

Q: Can GlobalMaxer work with other tools such as Google Analytics?

A: GlobalMaxer has been specifically designed to be compatible with all other JavaScript. The tool will not interfere with the tracking and can even adapt to any page changes made by other tools (for example expandable FAQs)

Q: Can I use GlobalMaxer on a secure site?

A: GlobalMaxer automatically detects the security of your site and adapts to use the same scheme. If your site is secure, then the alternatives will be loaded from our secure server. This means sensitive data remains secure and warnings are not issued by the browser.

Q: Can I use GlobalMaxer from behind a firewall?

A: Because GlobalMaxer’s integration is client-based (i.e. through the visitor’s browser), your website will not be making any other outgoing connection other than to the visitor. The visitor’s browser will connect to the GlobalMaxer service to track and record, their actions.

Q: Does GlobalMaxer work if the user clears their cookies?

A: The tool uses technology to identify the visitor even if they clear their cookies. This means a repeat visitor can be positively identified and tracked without affecting the validity of the experiment.

Q: Do I need to know HTML to set up an experiment?

A: GlobalMaxer has been specifically designed so as not to need HTML experience. There are a couple of tags to insert onto your site to allow the tool access, however when setting up alternatives, GlobalMaxer uses a tool very similar to a word processor.

Q: Does GlobalMaxer work with dynamic pages?

A: GlobalMaxer can test pages for sites where content is populated dynamically from a database for example as with E-Commerce sites. This means you can change the page as you see fit without the worry of overwriting dynamic content.

Q: How long will it take to gather results for and experiment?

A: The length of time an experiment needs for statistically sound results depends on the following factors:

  • The number of visitors per day to your site
  • The number of combinations in your experiment
  • The difference in conversion rates between combinations
  • The type of testing being done (full factorial or adaptive)

Q: How many alternatives should I set up?

A: The number of alternatives you will be able to practically test very much depends upon your visitor numbers and the variation in conversion rate the combinations produce.

Q: Why do I need to download an HTML file to my site?

A: The HTML file allows our site to communicate with yours.

Q: Why does the conversion percentage include another plus and minus percentage?

A: The tool uses the data gathered to try to predict what the conversion rate would be if the combination was implemented on the site. As the data gathered is only from a sample of all possible visitors there is a margin of error associated with this. This is represented by the plus minus percentage.
The greater the number of visitors becomes, the smaller the margin of error is. As a general rule one thousand visitors produce around a 3% margin of error.

Q: Can you explain the difference between adaptive and full factorial methods and which method is appropriate to use?

A: Full factorial testing refers to testing all the combinations an equal amount of times. The larger the number of combinations to be tested the more visitors to the site that are needed to give statistical significance and thus usually the longer the testing will take to produce results. Although more accurate than other methods it’s only really suitable for high traffic volume sites or where very few combinations to be tested.
By contrast adaptive testing does a small amount of testing with all combinations then pushes combinations which look promising to more of your visitors, meaning that if combination one is performing better than combination nine it will be presented to visitors more often. This method allows the “winning” combination to become clear with less hits, making this option viable for low traffic side. However the speed of adaptive testing means that it is not as accurate as full factorial testing.
Globalmaxer is unique in that it offers Companies the ability to chose the most suitable method and even gives you guidance as to which method is the most appropriate.
